Water Plants
Water Plants
No water garden or pond is complete without water plants. Besides adding beauty and color to your garden, aquatic plants can add oxygen to the water, remove harmful elements or help reduce the production of algae. In order to thrive, nearly all aquatic plants require full sun (at least 6 hours of sun per day).
Listed below are some of the more popular water plants we carry; however, plants listed may not be available at all times.
Floating Plants – Plants that float on the surface of the water of your pond or garden. Useful for providing shade, oxygenating the water, reducing algae, lowering water temperature and providing cover for fish.
- Hornwort
- Neptune’s Crown
- Water Hyacinth
- Water Lettuce
Marginals – Plants that can be submerged in water up to six (6) inches above the top of the roots, perfect for planting along the edge of ponds and water gardens. Marginals are great for softening the transition from pond to the rest of your landscape, oxygenating the water and removing harmful substances like ammonia and nitrates from the water.
- African Rose
- Angel’s Trumpet (Brugmansia)
- Blue Eyed Grass
- Calla Lily
- Cat Tail
- Lobellia
- Papyrus
- Pickerel Weed
- Ruellia
- Spiral Rush
Emergent Plants – Plants that are fully submerged in water with leaves and flowers emerging and growing upwards in summer. Like floating plants, they are beneficial for providing shade, adding oxygen to the water, lowering water temps, reducing algae and providing cover for fish.
- Hardy Water Lily
- Tropical Water Lily
- Lotus
