Nandinas are colorful evergreen shrubs that add interest to the garden and landscape year-round. In spring, new growth emerges in pink tones before darkening to green through the summer. Once fall arrives, their leaves turn a vibrant red that lasts well into winter!
While Heavenly Bamboo, the original Nandina, averages 6 to 8 feet tall, modern cultivars like Firepower and Obsession stay between 3 to 5 feet. Nandinas are perfect for mass plantings, borders and even do well in containers!
Full sun (at least 6 hours), though they can tolerate Part Sun.
Highly adaptable to most soil conditions and drought tolerant once established.
No pruning required except the occasional removal of damaged branches, which can be done at any time.
Fertilize in spring once new growth begins to emerge with an all purpose shrub fertilizer like Fertilome Tree and Shrub Fertilizer.
