Plant of the Week: Coneflower

Echinacea, more commonly known as Coneflower, is a native perennial with a ton of variety. While purple is the most well-known color, Coneflowers come in a large variety of colors including red, pink, orange, yellow and white. Blooming typically begins in early summer and can last through fall. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage new blooms.

Coneflowers average 2 to 5 feet tall depending on variety and are great for massing plantings, pollinator gardens and their seeds are a favorite of finches. Coneflowers are easily grown from started plants as well as by seed.

Full sun, at least 6 hours per day.

Well-draining soil preferred, but they are highly adaptable to most soil conditions. Drought tolerant once established.

Deadhead faded flowers regularly to encourage new blooms.

Fertilize once new growth begins to emerge in spring with Dr Earth Total Advantage or Dynamite.
