Prayer Plant Care

Named in reference to the way their leaves fold at night, Prayer Plants are easy plants to care for and do well in multiple environments.

Light – Low to Moderate light is ideal, though they can handle brighter, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight or the leaves can get scorched.

Water – Water Prayer Plants once the top 1 to 2 inches of soil is dry. Do not allow them to dry out completely as these plants are not drought tolerant. Take care when watering to not get water on the leaves, as they can develop fungal issues.

Soil – Moist, well-draining soil like Espoma Potting Soil.

Temperature – Prayer Plants enjoy temperatures between 65° and 80°. Do not expose to temperatures below 55° and protect them from drafts.

Humidity – Moderate to high levels of humidity are ideal. Do not mist Prayer Plants to raise humidity, instead set a tray of pebbles and water or a humidifier nearby.

Fertilization – Fertilize every couple of weeks spring through fall and reduce to fertilizing monthly during winter. Use a balanced fertilizer like Bonide Liquid Plant Food.

Size – Prayer Plants average 6 to 12 inches tall and wide.

Repotting – Repot Prayer Plants every 2 to 3 years. Select a container with good drainage and no more than 2 sizes larger than the current one.

Propagation – Easily propagated by dividing plants during repotting or by cuttings.

Toxicity – Considered non-toxic to people and pets.
